AN: This is a sequel to Why Yamada Ryosuke Prefers Hey!Say!JUMP Over NYC and Why Chinen Yuri Likes JUMP and NYC Just the Same. It’s not much, just the ending of those 2. And it’s the last. It’s hurried, I’ll fix it later.


The great Yamada Ryosuke was used to being alone, being forgotten and always walking by himself. That was until he met the little (or not so little anymore) Chinen Yuri who made his life more complicated. Not that he regrets meeting the little boy at all, he is, after all, his bestfriend. But sometimes, and I repeat, sometimes, Yamada Ryosuke thinks something went wrong with their relationship because right now, he needs Chinen Yuri like hell.

The little Chinen Yuri was found by his fellow members sulking at a corner of the Music Station studio. He was pouting like a cute little (or not so little, let’s stop reminding each other though) boy lost in this big and cruel world. He was sulking because even though an almost confession from his bestfriend was heard a month ago, nothing had happened next. Because Chinen Yuri found his rival to Yamada’s attention and that’s the camera. And also because of what he saw 3 days ago…

“Ryosuke~ Ryosu-“ Chinen was chanting when Yamada placed his hand on the other’s mouth.

“Stop calling me Ryosuke! That’s for my girlfriend!” Yamada hissed.

Chinen finally was able to let go of the grip, “But—“ And he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw that person.

“Oh, Mirai-chan!” Yamada exclaimed, giving a small hug at the girl.

“Ryosuke! How are you?” Mirai smiled, returning the hug. “You look a lot busy nowadays.”

“I guess you’re right. How about you?” Yamada returned the question and they walked together towards the building, forgetting about the other one who just stood shocked.

Chinen felt abandoned, and more. Yamada let Mirai call him Ryosuke even though they had broken up. And whatever reasons Chinen tries to form in his head to defend Ryosuke, it just didn’t work. He felt his heart thumping like crazy and the tears forming in his eyes. He wants to cry and cry alone.

All JUMP members were crowding around the lost little boy (who goes by name of Chinen Yuri) and tries to cheer him up. All, except the reason of this sulking who is currently at the vending maching buying himself a cold drink, was present.

“Hey, Chii, stop sulking now. Let’s go and get something to eat.” That was Yuto, offering his hands.

Chinen just sat there, like a stone. The other band members, especially BEST, just shook their head, admitting defeat. So Yabu, the ever effective oldest member, signaled them to leave the little boy alone.

After a little while, Yamada came back and was drinking from his bottle when he saw his bestfriend sitting on that same corner of the studio.

Yamada Ryosuke smiled and sat beside his bestfriend who still did not acknowledge his presence. After a few minutes of silence (that bothered him a lot), he finally took the initiative to speak first.

“What’s wrong, Chinen?”

All Chinen did was glare at his bestfriend, stood up and walked away as if he didn’t hear anything. That very same day, Chinen did what Yamada did to him. He abandoned his bestfriend and didn’t look back. And that’s what made all the difference in the world, because after this, Chinen had decided to stop, just stop.

Chinen Yuri decided to stop trying. Maybe he was wrong, maybe Yamada didn’t really like him the way he loves the other. Maybe, Yamada really was just being a good friend that day and just misses his bestfriend. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Chinen wanted to just forget and stop and just not be reminded. What Yamada did, leaving and forgetting him without any thought, made him open up his eyes.

Yamada Ryosuke do not need Chinen Yuri by his side.

Chinen finally decided on that. And he himself has to accept that because he always needs Yamada Ryosuke by his side, whether he wants to still admit it now or not.

After Chinen had walked away, Yamada felt as if his chest tightened, as if he couldn’t breathe. It was as if oxygen left him to fend for his own. Still, he didn’t know why his cheerful bestfriend turned sour. This has happened since 3 days ago, after that meeting with Mirai-chan. He didn’t really mean to leave Chinen by himself, he was just glad to find an old friend.

He explained and apologized to the little boy after, but it wasn’t the same. After that, Chinen was sour most of the time and he can’t even get a normal talk with the little boy. And then this happened, a feeling of not being able to breathe.

Yamada Ryosuke didn’t know exactly what it is that left him, but he would know soon enough.

After that day, whether it was with Hey!Say!JUMP or NYC, Chinen didn’t hang around him anymore. The little boy could be seen jumping from the lap of one of the members to the other, all except Yamada’s. During school days, Chinen doesn’t show up at their meeting spot and is instead seen walking with a bunch of his new male friends. Chinen stopped eating lunch with him now, and stopped going to his house to sleep over or to tutor him.

It bothered him, as the feeling on his chest continued to contract that he sometimes felt he couldn’t breathe anymore. But the great Yamada Ryosuke still didn’t know.

And that continued for days that turned to weeks that turned to months, and finally, finally Yamada Ryosuke, who can’t breathe, finally got fed up.

“Chinen Yuri, I have to talk to you.” Yamada called him as every member of JUMP was busy preparing for a photoshoot.

Chinen Yuri smiled, “Sorry Yamada-kun, I’m going with Dai-chan to the vending maching, maybe later?”

Yamada’s eyes turned to slits, “How about now?” And he dragged the little boy who still wasn’t finished tying his necktie. He wondered why he could breathe normally now, why now?

He turned left and then right and then stopped at the dead end of the Johnny’s building.

“What do you want?” Chinen asked coldly, a complete turn of event from the one inside the room.

Yamada expected this. “Chinen, it has been months since you last talked to me, what happened to us?”

Chinen stiffened when he heard the word and he just glared, “I still talk to you, when I need to. And there is no us to begin with.”

“Huh?”

Chinen Yuri was fed up, “STOP TALKING TO ME WITH THIS US THING! THERE IS NO US YAMADA! THE NEVERWAS!”

“What’s wrong Chinen? I’m your bestfriend, I’ll always be you bestfriend” Yamada soothed.

Chinen’s eyes blared, “STOP USING THAT WORD! YOU’RE STILL AS STUPID AS THE YAMADA I KNEW MONTHS AGO!”

“Chinen—“

“I’M IN LOVE WITH YOU DAMNIT!”

With this, Yamada had no reply.

Chinen’s eyes fell, not knowing how to talk but still continued. “I love you, don’t you get it? It has been years, Yama-chan, that I first fell in love with you. But I got tired of waiting, I got tired because I knew there was no use. I KNOW!”

Yamada was still as cold as ice.

“See? I was right, right?” Chinen smirked as he walked away for the second time.

Yamada still couldn’t breathe and he wondered why he could before. When ah, the answer struck him. It was because of…

“Chinen! Chinen!” Yamada ran to his friend who stopped and turned around. As soon as the other did, he pressed his lips firmly into the others and tried to feel his breathing.

He can breathe.

He can breathe now, when Chinen is around, he can breathe.

Yamada stopped the kiss and stared at the other’s eyes, who was surprised as hell. He smiled and hugged the other now, finally able to breathe.

“I don’t know yet, if I love you too Chinen.” Yamada breathed against Chinen’s neck. “All I know is that I can’t breathe when you’re not around, as if you’re my own personal supply of oxygen.”

Chinen finally laughed, although a bit croaky. “Stupid.”

“I know.” Yamada hugged him even tightly, “So don’t leave me again, please. Because I need you.”

“Huh?” Chinen was surprised.

Yamada Ryosuke needs Chinen Yuri because the small boy was his own personal supply of oxygen.
